    • Description of the research thematic of team 02:

The objective of this research is to better respond to issues related to the preservation and restoration of architectural and archeological heritage. For a long time in this field, the idea remained that “identical restitution” had perfectly answered the asked questions. In 1998, the Heritage Protection Act introduced the obligation to comply with the new doctrines of critical restoration. With this framework, the research in hand will focus on producing an in-depth knowledge of heritage based on the development of a computerized inventory and the updating of the archeological cartography of Algeria by Geographic Information Systems (GIS). In order to develop preventive preservation and restoration procedures, the research will develop methodological tools to optimize intervention. Oriented towards analysis, diagnosis and evaluation of stratigraphic      deposits, the method to be developed will consist of creating a unified set of information necessary for all architectural and urban interventions in stratified urban or rural environments (towns or villages) or on sites with high archeological value. It will be a useful instrument for the management of urban planning operations with proven heritage and undisputed archeological reserves. The inventory of scientific explorations of the 19th and 20th centuries, the computerized inventory of movable and immovable cultural property, development of preventative preservation and restoration techniques based on the peculiarities of local heritage and experimentation of diagnostic tools and development of stratigraphic studies are all aspects that the research in hand will scrutinize.
